What about emotions?

Hi partners!
In order to try to give some emotions to the virtual companion we researched a theoretical model that could support the choice of a spectrum of emotions.

We chose the Robert Plutchik model that classifies emotions in primary and secondary.
The image that appears in http://www.caiunateia.com/2008/01/04/a-natureza-das-emocoes/ gives us an idea of the spectrum and represents the relation between emotions concepts.

The colour variation in the tridimensional model shows the intensity of each emotion. The bidimensional model shows the relation between emotions. In white are the secondary emotions that are a mixture of two primary emotions.

What do you think about this model? Any suggestions?

Plutchik's emotion model compared to other dimensional models

Hello everybody,

I am Christian Becker-Asano and I finished my doctoral dissertation last summer in the field of Affective Computing, Affect Simulation/Modeling. If you are interested in my analysis of Plutchik's dimensional emotion model compared to other dimensional models (e.g. Pleasure-Arousal-Dominance, but also Scherer's CPM), then you are heartily invited to take a look into my thesis, which can be downloaded from my HP: WASABI thesis

In short, I came to the conclusion that Plutchik seemed to get too much in love with his "palette" idea of mixing basic emotions/colors. E.g. why should "submission" be accepted as an emotion? Why is "amazement" a stronger form of "surprise", the latter being rather unvalenced, because you might be negatively surprised as well (see Scherer).

For further discussion please feel free to contact me by email, if you like.

BTW: Your Lirec workshop at ACII sounds very interesting, but I am arriving in Amsterdam to late on that day. What a shame. Good luck!
